GP locum organiser apps compared: features, costs and CPD

Looking for a Locum Organiser alternative, or comparing airGP, Sessional, LocumDeck and My Locum Manager? Start with the jobs you need your app to do: organise sessions, create invoices, keep pension records and capture learning without adding more admin.

Locum Notes: everyday admin and CPD, free to use

Locum Notes is designed for UK GP locums who arrange their work and want a simple place to manage it. Start with 60 days of full access, with no card needed. Then keep all features free with 5 bookings and 5 CPD entries per month, including AI. Pro is optional at £4.99/month for unlimited entries.

  • Calendar and practice defaults, including hourly or session rates and pension settings.
  • Single-practice or bulk invoices for a chosen month or date range.
  • Mileage, expenses, pension calculations, PCSE submission tracking and summary exports.
  • CPD capture from text, voice, images and selected learning pages with the Chrome extension.
  • A mandatory document library with ZIP packs to share with practices.
  • Session imports from .ics files or iCal links, plus Apple and Google calendar subscriptions.

If you need a platform to find shifts, a practice booking portal or accounting integrations such as Xero, compare those services separately. Locum Notes keeps pension and tax records organised; you submit to PCSE or HMRC through the relevant service yourself.

How the other options differ

Locum Organiser

A GP locum organiser covering scheduling, invoices, expenses and pension forms. Its website lists Locum A, B and SOLO forms for all UK countries, registration document storage and integration with Lantum for finding work.

Worth comparing if you need its wider pension-form coverage or want the Lantum connection alongside your diary.

airGP

GP-focused session logging, calendar views, bulk invoicing, invoice emails, mileage, expenses and pension records. airGP also offers locum opportunities and an organisation-facing booking workflow.

Worth comparing if you want practice bookings and invoice delivery within the platform. Introductory offers and optional add-ons can change the price you pay.

Sessional

Software for several healthcare professions. Basic includes up to three shifts and two invoices a month, alongside professional records and CPD tools. Plus adds unlimited shifts and invoices, invoice chasers, expenses, calendar subscriptions, documents and GP pension forms. Pro adds Xero and API access.

Its free tier may suit light use. Compare the paid tiers if you need automated invoice chasing, broader finance tools or accounting integrations. The paid-plan trial requires a card.

NASGP LocumDeck

LocumDeck combines bookings, invoicing, pension admin and bookkeeping with NASGP membership. Instant Book lets authorised practices book your availability. NASGP also provides professional resources, AppraisalAid and community support.

Consider it if finding work, practice connections and membership support matter. NASGP lists £15 per in-person Instant Book session and £11 for remote sessions; manually arranged bookings and local funding have different conditions. Check your applicable plan and area.

My Locum Manager

A GP admin and workforce platform with session tracking, shift sharing, invoicing, pension preparation, mileage and financial tools. Its membership also advertises webinars, CPD and access to professional support.

Worth comparing if you want the wider practice-network and membership services. Its pricing page states there are no booking, payroll or management fees.

Choose for the way you work

Which app makes CPD easiest to capture?

Try recording something you learned today. Locum Notes lets you type a note, transcribe a voice recording, extract text from an image or capture a learning page with the Chrome extension. Review the draft and keep the learning in your CPD log. Compare this workflow with the professional-record tools and CPD services included in other plans.

Can I move from another locum organiser?

If your current organiser can export an .ics file or provide an iCal link, you can review its calendar events in Locum Notes and confirm which become sessions. Apply practice defaults and check single-session or full-day bookings before saving. Calendar imports transfer events; they do not transfer your old invoices, CPD or pension history.

Do I need booking and membership services too?

If you already arrange work with your practices, start by comparing the daily admin you will use. If you want new opportunities, practice connections, peer support or a wider professional membership, those additional services may justify a different plan. Try an ordinary working week in your shortlist before choosing.
