For UK GP locums · Built by a sessional GP

Less chasing figures. More organised expenses.

Keep professional subscriptions, equipment costs and session mileage alongside your work records, rather than rebuilding a spreadsheet at the end of the year.

Free to use. Start with 60 days full access, then keep all features with 5 bookings and 5 CPD entries per month, including AI. Optional Pro: £4.99/month for unlimited entries. No card needed. You can also try without an account.

A simple example

If the estimated one-way road journey to a practice is 12 miles, Locum Notes records a 24-mile return journey for the session. Check and adjust it if you travelled a different route, started elsewhere or did not make a return trip. This is an illustration, not a tax entitlement.

How automatic mileage works

Add your home postcode in Settings and a postcode for each practice. When mileage is calculated for a saved session, the app looks up the postcodes and estimates a one-way driving distance using a road-routing service. It doubles that distance for the return journey and keeps the figures with the session. This needs an internet connection; it does not track your phone or record your actual route.

Check once, adjust when needed

Review the mileage against the journey you actually made. You can enter or change the miles manually, and automatic calculation leaves a manual override alone. If a postcode is missing or the lookup is unavailable, the app explains what needs checking and lets you enter mileage yourself. Check multiple bookings on the same day so the same journey is not counted twice.

Keep expenses in one place

Log an expense with its date, category, description and amount. Record recurring professional subscriptions when paid, plus other work-related costs, then review your expenses and mileage by UK tax year. The app records the figures; it does not decide whether every expense or journey is allowable.

See the miles as well as the estimate

The Expenses page shows mileage separately from its estimated mileage claim, so you can see the underlying distance rather than just a pound figure. The estimate is a review aid, not a guaranteed deduction or a tax return.

A clearer handover to your accountant

The Work summary brings session income, expenses, mileage, invoices and pension figures into a date-based view with a CSV export. Review the records before sharing them with your accountant. Locum Notes does not submit a return to HMRC.
